Today Bournemouth hosts its annual ‘Airshow’ set against the backdrop of its seven-mile long beautiful Bay including ‘Air and Sea Displays’ from aircraft ranging from the classic flying machines to modern day speed machines. The town has all the usual attractions of a leading tourist resort and we arrive home by approximately 8.00pm.

BUCKINGHAM PALACE

Discover the highlights of a visit to the State Rooms of the official London residence of Her Majesty the Queen. The State Rooms are the public rooms in the Palace where the Queen and members of the Royal Family receive and entertain their guests on State, ceremonial and official occasions. They are furnished with some of the most important pictures, furniture, fine porcelain and tapestries from the Royal Collection. So, marvel at the Throne Room, the White Drawing Room, the Picture Gallery, the Ballroom and Grand Staircase. This year a special exhibition explains how Queen Victoria, the first monarch to live here, had the Duke of Buckingham’s town house converted into a Royal Palace for a Queen. At the end of the tour there is time to visit Buckingham Palace’s popular Garden Cafe on the West Terrace which enjoys good views across the famous lawn. Home by approximately 6.00pm.

EASTBOURNE

THURSDAY 5TH SEPTEMBER 2019 

ROYAL MAIL MUSEUM AND NATIONAL ARMY MUSEUM

Our first stop today is at the state of the art Postal Museum – five centuries of curiosities from the original sculpture of The Queen used to produce 200 billion stamps to a beautiful old Royal Mail coach. We also enjoy a short ride on the ‘Mail Rail’ before stepping aboard the iconic ‘Night Mail’ to sort letters as it speeds through the night! Time for lunch in the cafeteria before driving across London to visit the National Army Museum. The Army museum covers all aspects of army history from the 17th century to the present day – from cavalry to modern tanks and from the Civil War to the two World Wars. There is a shop, large restaurant and admission is free. Home by 6.00pm.

WEST COUNTRY WONDERS (The Best of Devon and Somerset)

A tour based at the 3-star Best Western in Tiverton situated in the heart of the Exe Valley only a short walk from the town centre. The hotel rooms have all the usual facilities and although there is no lift all rooms are either on the ground or first floor.

Friday: Drive to Tiverton stopping at Fleet Services (coffee) and Sherborne (lunch) arriving at our hotel during the late afternoon.

Saturday: Following a leisurely breakfast we have the morning free in Tiverton and after lunch enjoy a leisurely horse-drawn canal cruise. We glide gently along the Great Western Canal to East Manley, where we can stretch our legs, before the return cruise. Refreshments are available on board our canal boat.

Sunday: Today we have a ride on the West Somerset Railway from Bishop’s Lydiard to Minehead where we have time for lunch. We then re-join our coach to enjoy a pretty ride across Exmoor via Dunster and Exford (tea).

Monday: This morning we drive to Colyton for a ride on the Seaton Tramway that takes us past the bird sanctuary of the Axe Valley Marshes to the town of Seaton where we join our coach and drive to Sidmouth. There is time for lunch and relaxation in the resort before returning to our hotel.

Tuesday: We travel by way of Wells (lunch) and Marlborough (tea) before returning home along the M4 motorway. The tour is scheduled to arrive back in Enfield Town by approximately 7.00am.

No matter how often we return to this city of culture and pleasure there is always something new to discover, particularly now that the ancient baths have been refurbished and a new ‘Bath Spa Complex’ has been opened. We have at least four hours in this World Heritage Site, surrounded by fine Georgian buildings, crescents, squares and shops as well as the most complete Roman remains in Britain. There is also the mediaeval Bath Abbey, outstanding museum of costume and the Jane Austen Centre, that explains Jane’s life in Bath, her family and home. Home by approximately 8.30pm.

Today we have the opportunity to visit the new Stonehenge Exhibition and Visitor Centre. Here, we can get closer to the ‘Mysteries of the Stones’ at the Visitor Centre before travelling to the great Stone Circle itself in a special land train to view close up this exceptional survivor from lost prehistoric cultures. The Visitor Centre gives us a 360-degree experience of viewing the stones whilst standing in the centre of the circle using laser scan images that enable us to watch the winter and summer solstices come and go in spectacular fashion. Time for lunch in the restaurant before driving into Salisbury city centre dominated by its huge cathedral spire. Home by approximately 8.00pm.

ELEGANT BELTON HOUSE (NT) AND HIDDEN ENGLAND

Today we visit Hidden England, a secret place of unique historic houses and castles many of them still lived in by the families who built them hundreds of years ago. We stop for lunch in Grantham famous for its old 18th-century coaching inns and 15th-century grammar school where Isaac Newton was a pupil. The town is also well known as the birthplace of Margaret Thatcher. Suitably refreshed we visit nearby Belton House one of the finest Restoration Houses in the country with its stunning interiors dating from the middle of the 17th century. The richly furnished Hondecoeter Rooms, hints at the lavish hospitality which the house was once famous for. There are formal gardens and landscaped park. Tea can be taken at the house and we shall arrive home by approximately 8.00pm.

THE RHINE VALLEY

The Rhine, Europe’s major river is almost 1,000 miles long. Rising in the Swiss Alps it flows through Germany and Holland to the North Sea. On this tour we visit some of the most beautiful parts of this fine river and see sun drenched vineyards and surrounding hillsides with quaint mediaeval towns dominated by ancient castles. Some of Europe’s best and most popular wines are produced in this area and the tour includes a visit to a winery, including a wine tasting and a Rhine river cruise to the famous ‘Loreley Rock’. Our hotel is the 3-star Baudobriga Rhinehotel situated by the banks of the River Rhine, near the town centre of Boppard. During our stay we include a walking tour of the town and a excursion to a riverside location. On the outward and return journey we have an overnight stop in Lille including dinner and breakfast.
