Today we shall take it gently via the scenic route to Shakespeare’s Stratford. We travel through the Chiltern Hills and the Cotswolds via Edge Hill to arrive in Stratford for lunch. Stratford is situated along the banks of the River Avon and is renowned for its associations with Shakespeare, the world’s greatest playwright. It’s possible to visit many Shakespearian properties including the church where he was baptised and buried. You could take a guided bus tour around the town or enjoy a short boat trip on the river. Home by approximately 8.00pm.

A different tour of the Glorious Cotswolds that takes us to the Bicester Garden Centre for coffee and then by way of Shipston and Chipping Campden to enchanting Broadway, the ‘Painted Lady’ of the Cotswolds for lunch. During the afternoon our route takes us up Broadway Hill and through Stow-on-the-Wold to Burford (tea) returning home along the A40 route. Home by approximately 8.00pm.

HASTINGS SEAFOOD AND WINE FESTIVAL

Lots of good food, drink, music and entertainment await at this weekend’s Festival, held on the seafront at the Stade open space. Here there will be about 40 stalls, plus a wine marquee with all sorts of tasty culinary offerings and beverages as Hastings celebrates the richness of fare provided by the local fishing industry. Other attractions in the town include the re- opened pier, large shopping centre, castle ruins perched high on the cliff and of course ‘Foyle’s Walk’ where the famous TV series Foyle’s War was filmed amidst the interesting antique shops. Home by approximately 8.00pm.

Harrogate and the Yorkshire Dales

A traditional tour combining the sophistication of Harrogate with the beautiful scenery of the Yorkshire Dales, an area full of dramatic valleys dotted with attractive stone-built villages. Our hotel is the 4- star Cedar Court that was the town’s first purpose-built hotel, dating from the 17th century. The magnificent hotel building is unique and Grade II listed, with plenty character and all the modern facilities you would expect of 4-star accommodation.
Monday: Enjoy a leisurely drive to Harrogate stopping at the Willington Garden Centre for coffee, Stamford (lunch) and Clumber Park (tea), arriving at our hotel during the early evening.
Tuesday: Morning free in Harrogate, afternoon visit to Newby Hall and Gardens. The house dates from 17th century and is a perfect example of the Georgian ‘Age of Elegance’ containing furniture by Thomas Chippendale. The gardens contain rare shrubs and plants including the ‘National Collection of Genus Comus’ and a spectacular autumn garden.
Wednesday: Whole-day tour around the dramatic Yorkshire Dales taking us to Grassington (lunch) and along Wharfedale and Wensleydale to stop for tea at the Black Sheep Brewery Visitor Centre.
Thursday: Return home by way of Lincoln (lunch) and Peterborough Services (tea). The tour is scheduled to arrive back in Enfield Town by approximately 7.00pm.

ANCIENT COLCHESTER AND TEA AT GREEN ISLAND GARDENS

We drive direct to Colchester, England’s oldest town. Here the narrow streets are a reminder of the town’s 400-year-old links with the Dutch Cloth Industry. During the afternoon we shall visit Green Island Gardens which are private gardens open for the public to visit. Designed by owner Fiona Edmond the gardens are laid out as a series of structured gardens displaying a huge range of unusual trees, shrubs, perennials and bulbs; a ‘Plantsman’s Paradise’. Surely one of the best gardens open to visit in Essex. There will be time for tea at the gardens before leaving for home by approximately 7.00pm.

Enjoy a leisurely cruise across the Channel aboard ships equipped with excellent shopping and restaurant facilities, then drive to Boulogne where we can enjoy the delights of patisseries, cheese shops and wine merchants. There is also time to visit the old town with its quaint houses and cafés in the narrow streets or take an optional trip to the local hypermarket saving yourself £s before returning across the Channel to Dover. We shall drive direct to Blickling Hall near Aylsham in Norfolk stopping for coffee en route. You will never forget your first sight of Blickling as the breathtaking Jacobean mansion comes into view. Built in the early 17th century and one of the greatest Jacobean houses, Blickling is famous for its spectacular long gallery, superb plaster work, ceilings and fine collections of furniture, pictures and tapestries. The gardens are full of colour throughout the year and the extensive parklands features a lake and a series of beautiful walks. There is also a Trust New Art immersive art installation allowing you to see Blickling in a different perspective. Time for lunch and tea at the house before arriving home by approximately 8.00pm.
